Where is the Collie battery energy storage system located?

The Collie Battery Energy Storage System will be located around 13km north-east of Collie town, nearly 200km south-east of Perth. The site is near the Collie Power Station on land owned by Western Australian electricity and gas provider Synergy.

Once operational, Collie Battery will be able to provide short duration storage in peak times to ease pressure on the grid. It will have the ability to charge and discharge 20% of the average demand in Western Australia’s South-West Interconnected System (SWIS).

A total of 640 containerised CATL batteries will be installed at Synergy’s Collie battery energy storage system in Western Australia. WA Energy Minister Reece Whitby said large-scale storage is important because it supports household investment in rooftop solar and allows the state to continue its phased transition out of coal by 2030.
